Trail mix is a healthy, nutritious weight loss solution. Healthy trail mix provides quick boost of good carb energy followed by a sustaining dose of protein energy. Trail mix is vegan and vegetarian. Trail mix is good finger food for busy kids. Trail mix makes a great car snack. Trail mix requires no heating, refrigeration or preparation. Trail mix can be made easily to suit special diets: lactose intolerant, gluten-free, peanut or tree nut allergies, diabetic, low cholesterol and hypertensive low sodium. Trail mix makes a great snack for dieters: a handful of trail mix calms the appetite, provides energy and protein without a huge caloric intake. Here are trail mix recipe ingredients. Healthy trail mix ingredients: nuts- peanuts, raw almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, filberts, hazelnuts, cashews (beware; some nuts like Brazil nuts, get stale, rancid or moldy quickly). Choose unsalted and unflavored nuts, like honey-roasted peanuts or smoked almonds. Healthy trail mix ingredients: dried fruit - raisins, dried cherries, cranberries, blueberries, coconut, apricots, papaya, apples, mango, bananas, strawberries, pineapple. Avoid dried fruits that have been sugared or processed with sulfur. Home dried fruits have a shorter shelf life, but are healthier. Don't own a fruit dryer? Set your oven on low and arrange fruit slices on shallow pan. Healthy trail mix ingredients: low sugar breakfast cereals- Cheerios, Chex cereals, Life cereal, Kashi Healthy trail mix ingredients: seeds- pumpkin seeds or kernels, soy nuts, pine nuts, sesame seeds, hulled sunflower seeds Healthy trail mix ingredients: pretzels- Choose smaller, low sodium pretzels or oat bran pretzels. Avoid stick pretzels which are sharp and may cause choking. The small bow pretzel or lattice pretzels work best. Healthy trail mix ingredients: Unsalted popcorn Healthy Trail Mix ingredients: mini rice cakes Healthy Trail Mix Ingredients: Pepperidge Farm Original Goldfish crackers (made with unbleached flour). When you blend trail mix ingredients, aim for a sweet-salty balance. If you are using sweeter dried fruits, like bananas, raisins, cranberries and apples, balance the trail mix with less salty options, like rice cakes and nuts. Tangier fruits like cherries, cranberries and mango complement seeds like pumpkin and sunflower very well. Also, remember to keep it simple. A good trail mix should contain no more than three to five ingredients. When you have chosen your trail mix blend, mix by ingredients by hand.
